 FILM HISTORIANS DEPARTMENT - ACTIVITIES OF CURATORS 

A platform of film collections trusted by film historians was given in 1943 by creation of the Film archive, which was initiated by a group of the professional filmmakers headed by cameraman Jindřich Brichta. Collection structure has the same division as cinematography - feature film area, documentary film and animated film where the first two are divided into local and foreign production.

The area of Czech so called nonfiction cinematography consists beside a conceptional documentary film also of two collections of news film materials - pictorial journals resp. newsreels divided by the year 1945. At the present time historians of the Czech documentary film work on a catalogue of preserved film works of this production.

Czech Feature Film I. - V.  Broad area of foreign feature cinematography is currently divided between individual custodians according to their specialisation and language knowledge, for instance cinematography Romanian, Anglo-American, German, Slavic countries' films, Caucasus and Central Asia region etc.

In the animated film collection are included comics, puppet, facet and special effect works from Czech and foreign production. The oldest animated films are from twenties of
20th century. The first part of prepared catalogue of Czech animated films includes the period from the early beginning of the Czech cinematography till 1945.

In the year 2000 was in NFA set up a collection of unprofessional cinematography which includes amateur filmmaker works and family film chronicles. The National film archive became one of the few
big state archives which are focussed also on this area of film production.
